COUNCIL ATTEND AUTISM FRIENDLY CHAMPION TRAININGš
We were delighted to facilitate training today at Dungarvan Civic Offices with the Dungarvan District Councillors, Council officials and representatives from the HR Department.
As well as completing the training we explored practical ways the Council can help make Dungarvan more inclusive.
The session included
šøļøIdeas for an Autism Friendly County Council
šøļøPractical Actions for Local Authority Departments
šøļøWhat is Working Well in Other County Councils
We also looked at examples of Visual Guides and Sensory Maps already being used by other local authorities.
There was fantastic engagement throughout, with lots of enthusiasm, thoughtful questions and future ideas discussed.
A key discussion was the progression of an Inclusive Sensory Play Space for Dungarvan that is included in our offical town plan with a potential new sites being explored. We discussed the possibility of creating a sensory play space alongside a traditional playground, similar to the wonderful model in Clonmel allowing children of all abilities to play side by side.
We look forward to continuing this collaboration, setting out our next goals and working together towards the next steps in Dungarvan achieving Autism Friendly accreditation.š
A sincere thank you to all of the Councillors, Council officials and HR representatives who attended for their time, enthusiasm and genuine commitment to working with us to create positive and meaningful change.
We also look forward to continuing the Autism Friendly Champion Training across other Council departments and teams.
