• Autism Friendly Dungarvan is a growing community-led initiative made up of autistic individuals, families, businesses, volunteers, and local organisations. We’re working together to create an inclusive, understanding, and supportive environment where everyone—regardless of neurotype—can feel welcome and thrive.

  • The Autism Friendly Town Initiative is a national campaign led by AsIAm, Ireland’s National Autism Charity. The programme helps towns across the country become more accessible and inclusive for autistic people by promoting awareness, acceptance, and meaningful change within local communities.

Dungarvan joined the initiative to ensure that our town reflects the diversity of those who live, work, and visit here. We’re committed to building an environment that embraces all abilities and respects different sensory, communication, and social needs.

  • An Autism Champion is a business, organisation, or individual who takes practical steps to support inclusion in Dungarvan. Champions might offer quiet hours, staff training, sensory-friendly spaces, or simply a friendly welcome.

Becoming a Champion means committing to positive change—no matter how big or small—and helping build a culture of acceptance in our town.

  • There are loads of ways to contribute to Autism Friendly Dungarvan:

    • Become an Autism Champion (as a business or individual)

    • Volunteer your time or skills for events or awareness campaigns

    • Share resources and promote inclusivity on social media

    • Advocate within your own community spaces—schools, workplaces, clubs

    • Fundraise or offer sponsorship for initiatives

Whether you’ve got 5 minutes or 5 hours a week, every bit helps.

  • We’ll be updating this website regularly with local resources, upcoming events, and accessibility guides.

Follow us on social media to stay connected, or reach out directly if you’d like to get involved. If you're local, look out for Autism Friendly Dungarvan posters and stickers around town to see which places are already on board.
