Coffee Morning Workshop – Supporting Young People with Anxiety
We were delighted to welcome our first guest speaker of the year, Treasa Forristal, to our coffee morning workshop on supporting young people with anxiety, held in our new office space.
Treasa, a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, Play Therapist, and Paediatric Reflexologist, shared practical and easy-to-use strategies that parents and carers can bring home and use straight away.
Some of the key takeaways included:
Understanding fight, flight, and freeze responses
The importance of co-regulation
How predictability and consistency help build a sense of safety
Simple daily breathing techniques
Creative ways to express worries through play and storytelling
Movement and bilateral activities to help children feel less “stuck”
Why bedtime can be anxiety-provoking, and how to support it
Book recommendations for further support
It was a really powerful and supportive session, reminding us that behaviour is communication, and that connection, play, and calm presence can make a real difference.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on the morning.
A big thank you also to Dungarvan Shopping Centre and Fresh Food Court for their continued support, and to Pobal for funding our guest speakers and workshops.
